Say NO to Fast Fashion!

Writer: TopShelfDesignerRecycleTopShelfDesignerRecycle

What is it and what can I do?

FAST FASHION ...refers to retailers' practice of producing cheap clothes as quickly and as frequently as possible. Since the prices on these items are so low, they encourage consumers to buy en masse without thinking too much about their purchases.

THE PROBLEM

The fashion industry is one of the major polluting industries in the world. The production and distribution of the crops, fibers, and garments used in fashion all contribute to differing forms of environmental pollution, including water, air, and soil pollution. The textile industry is the second greatest polluter of local freshwater in the world. Some of the main factors that contribute to this industrial caused pollution are the vast overproduction of fashion items, the use of synthetic fibers, and the pollution of agricultural crops.

ASK YOURSELF...

1. What can I do to stop fast fashion?

2. Simply buy less clothing.

3. Buy higher quality goods that will last longer.

4. Invest in timeless, core wardrobe pieces that you can build around.

5. Take the time to research what you are buying. ...

6. Wash your garments less frequently and steer clear of garments that require dry cleaning.

and finally... BUY SECOND HAND, SWAP, & RENT CLOTHING
